Wireless Routers

With ever-improving technology, consumers are now finding that it’s easier than ever to run a wireless network at home, so that PCs, laptops, printers, and other devices can easily connect and share documents and complete simple tasks without the need for the clutter and hassle of extended cat5 cables and other formerly-required network equipment.

The center of the modern residential wireless network is, of course, the wireless router. Routers not only control the connection of all devices on your network to each other, but to the World Wide Web as well. It acts as a kind of barrier between your home’s internal network, and the internet beyond your walls. Not only that, but routers act as firewalls as well. That is, they offer a layer of security that stops most of the basic forms of malicious traffic that could try to take over devices on your network through your broadband internet connection.

Where most people get caught up is in the 802.11g or n or whatever letter area. All you really need to know is this: the higher in the alphabet you get, the better the connection, but ONLY for devices which are compatible with that particular wireless type. They are all backwards compatible, or, in other words, will work with devices that use a previous standard, but the best performance is achieved with a wireless router AND wireless device that are capable of the highest level possible. e.g a router and device that are 802.11n compatible.

Gotoforms.com offers two wireless router models from Belkin that we think are high quality and will work for any normal home network, one that is wireless “N” capable, and another that is “G” capable. Check them out, and feel free to ask if you have questions regarding them or any of our other computer accessories.
